This Sunday I'll be playing at a new farmers market that debuted last Sunday in the Irvington neighborhood on Northeast 16th Avenue between Broadway and Weidler streets. (The block on 16th Avenue between Broadway and Weidler is actually closed during the market hours so that the market can take over the entire block.)
The market hours are from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and I'll be performing from 11:00 AM until noon, followed by my good friends, James Jeffrey-West from noon until 2:00 PM, and - closing out the show - Dan Weber from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM.
Produce and products available includes vegetables and fruits, artisan chocolates and breads as well as wild-caught salmon. Ready-to-eat-food vendors also will be on site, so that the live music can be enjoyed over a meal each week.
Northeast resident Brad Perkins, who manages the market, says the thrust behind the market drive is to:
- Make nutritious food easily available
- Support local growers, and
- Bring the community together in these trying times.
Should be fun - I hope to see you there!
